Joyce Tours New Lake County Public Safety Center Construction Site

Resources / Public Safety Share on Joyce Tours New Lake County Public Safety Center Construction Site Oct 13, 2026 Press Public Safety PAINESVILLE, OH – On Friday, Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) and Lake County Sheriff Frank Leonbruno toured the construction site for the new Lake County Public Safety Center. The project represents a key investment in local safety and security of the community. The three-and-a-half-story facility will have capacity for 504 individuals and span approximately 250,000 square feet. The project will also include technology and security enhancements designed to support law enforcement and improve care for the people housed in the facility. These enhancements are supported in part by $4.2 million in community project funding secured by Congressman Joyce through the Fiscal Year 2026 Commerce, Justice, and Science appropriations bill. “As a former prosecutor, the safety and well-being of Northeast Ohio’s communities continue to be among my top priorities,” said Congressman Joyce . “By equipping law enforcement and corrections staff with better technology, communication tools, and resources, we can create a safer environment inside the facility while supporting better outcomes for the community. I am glad to have played a vital role in moving this project forward and improving public safety.” “As Sheriff of Lake County, I want to thank Congressman Dave Joyce for his support for our new jail project and his assistance in obtaining $4 million at the federal level to fund our technology needs. This new state-of-the-art facility will bring expanded treatment for medical, mental health, and addiction services to help us return inmates to society better than when they first arrived at our doors,” said Lake County Sheriff Leonbruno . Background The current Lake County Jail opened in 1990 and has served the county for more than three decades. While the facility has received updates over the years, some of its technology and infrastructure date back to its original construction. The new Lake County Public Safety Center is being built to replace the aging facility and provide updated space and resources for modern corrections operations. The Lake County Public Safety Center is scheduled to open in the summer of 2027. ### Share on
