ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —Today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, hosted a roundtable discussion on how many jobs the Trump Administration will kill and how much they will raise New Mexicans' utility bills as a result of Trump’s Big, Bad Bill. Heinrich was joined by Western Resource Advocates, the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project, the NM Renewable Energy Industries Association, Affordable Energy, Solar Works Energy, and UniRac.

Heinrichblasted Republicans’ Big, Bad Bill immediately after the text was unveiled, warning that “the impact is electricity bills will go up.”

Throughout the reconciliation process,Heinrich stood up for New Mexico families, released a report that outlined the negative economic impact of the Big, Bad Bill, grilled the U.S. Energy Secretary over Trump’s plan to gut funding for energy programs that ensure working families have access to affordable, domestic sources of energy, pushed to amend the Big, Bad Bill – for over 27 hours –by repeatedly voting to lower energy costs for families, andvoted against the reconciliation bill.

“I think we're in a perfect storm that is going to hit everyday New Mexicans and people across the country, and their electric bills,”said Heinrich, Ranking Member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.“And they need to know this is coming, and they need to know why it's happening.”

"This is an administration that is actively trying to destroy jobs. When you target peoples’ jobs, you really target their identity. It's the most disrespectful thing you can do,”Heinrich stated.

Heinrich continues to fight against the Big, Bad Bill and hold Donald Trump and Republicans’ accountable for raising energy costs on American families.

Recently, Heinrichgrilled several pending Trump Administration nomineeson the Big, Bad Bill and pressed these nominees to improve energy efficiency and develop renewable energy sources to lower utility bills.

At another Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing, Heinrichraised the alarmon the energy affordability crisis facing working families and cited recent, irresponsible actions taken by the Trump Administration and Republicans that will raise energy costs – including the passage of their Big, Bad Bill, their dismantling of our nation’s clean energy industry, and a recent directive from the Department of Interior that will inevitablydelaynew generation additions to the grid and drive up energy costs further.
