Representative John W. Mannion Secures $1,031,000 for Onondaga Community College to Expand Advanced Manufacturing and Semiconductor Workforce Training

Mannion (NY-22) today announced that $1,031,000 in federal Community Project Funding he secured for Onondaga Community College’s Innovating Manufacturing Programs for Advanced Career Training (IMPACT) project has been formally awarded through the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Representative John W. Mannion said, “The growth of advanced manufacturing and the semiconductor industry is creating new demand for skilled workers. I’ll continue working with strong partners like Onondaga Community College to make sure local residents have the tools and training they need to succeed in these high-demand and good-paying jobs. With over a million dollars in new equipment, OCC students and apprentices will be training on the same modern equipment they’ll use in their careers, giving manufacturers the workforce pipeline they need to grow and succeed.” Dr. Warren Hilton, Onondaga Community College President, said, “Onondaga Community College is proud to be Central New York’s Partner in Education for Success and to play a critical role in preparing the skilled workforce our region needs. His support will help OCC expand opportunities for students to gain the skills they need for rewarding careers while helping employers meet the growing demand for a highly skilled workforce.” OCC will use the funding to purchase and install advanced equipment and software focused on electrical technology, mechanical technology, semiconductor systems, welding, and thermodynamics. The workforce training will be incorporated into OCC’s degree, certificate, and apprenticeship programs, expanding hands-on instruction in precision manufacturing, material analysis, and quality control. More than 250 students and apprentices annually will benefit from this investment, strengthening the local pipeline of skilled workers for the manufacturing, semiconductor, construction, automotive, and industrial machinery sectors. The OCC funding is part of 15 Community Project Funding priorities advanced by Representative Mannion during his first year in office in partnership with local leaders across Central New York and the Mohawk Valley. All 15 projects have passed Congress and been signed into law, delivering a total of more than $15 million in federal funding to address locally identified needs - including public safety improvements, lead service line replacement, water and wastewater modernization, workforce training, airport infrastructure upgrades, and research critical to America’s economic and national security. # # #
