Bureau of Reclamation Announces $108 Million to Support North Dakota Water Supply

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) announced an award of$100 millionfor work on the Eastern North Dakota Alternate Water Supply (ENDAWS) project, and$8 millionat the McClusky Canal and Snake Creek Pumping Plant. This funding was provided by the Working Families Tax Cuts bill, which President Trump signed into law in July.
“Today’s announcement is the result of the North Dakota delegation’s work to secure this funding in the Working Families Tax Cuts law,”said Cramer.“It builds on our efforts to include funding for ENDAWS in the Fiscal Year 2026 Energy and Water appropriations bill and brings us closer to finishing the project. Upon completion, ENDAWS will ensure reliable water supply to roughly 50% of North Dakota’s population.”
The ENDAWS project relies on water from the McClusky Canal to deliver water supply and help meet the needs of people in Central and Eastern North Dakota, especially during times of drought. Through the utilization of existing BOR infrastructure such as the McClusky Canal, the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District estimates ENDAWS could reduce project costs by $200 million from the state-led Red River Valley Water Supply Project. Congress included $50 million for ENDAWs in the Fiscal Year 2026 Energy and Water appropriations bill.
