Tlaib Statement on Government Shutdown

<p><strong>WASHINGTON, D.C.&nbsp;</strong>—&nbsp;Today,&nbsp;<strong>Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-12)</strong>&nbsp;released the following statement:</p>

<p>“Republicans currently control all branches of government and are responsible for this shutdown. For weeks, President Trump has refused to negotiate a bipartisan funding bill, and Republicans are not even here in Washington, D.C. to vote.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I won’t sign a blank check for Trump’s authoritarian agenda. This is a lawless administration that is wreaking havoc on our communities. They want to shut down the government to continue breaking the law and operating without oversight.</p>

<p>“It’s shameful that the president called protecting the health care of the American people ‘unserious and ridiculous’ demands. I refuse to rubber stamp another partisan Republican funding bill while they kick 17 million Americans off their health care. I will continue fighting to meet the needs of the people I represent by reversing the extreme Medicaid cuts, protecting Medicare, and renewing the Affordable Care Act tax credits.”</p>
