Blumenthal Statement on Trump Eliminating Environmental Protections for Northeast Canyons & Seamounts Marine National Monument

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement after President Donald Trump issued a proclamation rolling back protections for the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument. Trump announced that he would open the region’s only marine national monument to commercial fishing.
“Eliminating protections for this spectacular underwater seascape— a natural treasure— reverses years of our environmental advocacy. As the Atlantic’s only marine national monument, it is a pristine, precious ecosystem supporting countless species of fauna, fish and other wildlife. Trump’s decision is reckless and irresponsible. I’ll be fighting it— to restore the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument.”
