Kelly votes to strengthen U.S. border security, fund CBP & ICE

Mike Kelly (R-PA) voted in favor S.2, Secure America Act , legislation that would provide a $70 billion package to fund immigration enforcement agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), through 2029. "For months, during a period of heightened global tensions, Democrats have shamefully played games with American national security. Let's be clear: Republicans will always secure America's borders," said Rep. Kelly. "President Trump inherited wide-open borders and a surge of illegal immigration under the previous administration. In just one year, President Trump has produced the most secure border in history. This funding allows law enforcement to continue their jobs without partisan politics getting in the way." Following today's passage by the U.S. House of Representatives and last week's passage by the U.S. Senate, the bill now heads to President Trump's desk for his signature. BACKGROUND House and Senate Republicans passed this legislation to strengthen border security and law enforcement agencies along party lines after Democrats began obstructing funding for the Department of Homeland Security in February. This led to the historic 76-day partial government shutdown of DHS, which ended in April after Congress passed funding for most of DHS.
