Husted secures millions in funding for Toledo rail infrastructure project
“Ohioans can count on me to continue fighting to bring infrastructure investments like this home to Ohio to support jobs, grow our economy and keep our communities safe.” WASHINGTON – Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) today announced that he secured $43,550,000 in funding to rehabilitate and modernize the Toledo Swing Bridge over the Maumee River, improving rail safety, reliability and freight transportation in northwest Ohio. “Ohio’s rail infrastructure plays a critical role in moving goods, supporting businesses and keeping our economy strong. This investment will make the Toledo Swing Bridge safer and more reliable, allowing goods to move more efficiently and strengthening Toledo’s position as a major transportation hub. Ohioans can count on me to continue fighting to bring infrastructure investments like this home to Ohio to support jobs, grow our economy and keep our communities safe,” said Husted. The funding was awarded through the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program following Husted’s advocacy for the project in a letter to Federal Railroad Administration Administrator David Fink. The project will address a structural bottleneck along an active freight corridor by modernizing the bridge and increasing its load-carrying capacity. These improvements will allow modern railcars to move more efficiently, strengthen freight transportation and support Ohio’s domestic energy supply chain. The CRISI program supports projects that improve railroad safety, efficiency and reliability, reduce congestion along passenger and freight rail corridors and strengthen connections between transportation systems. The grant allocation builds on Husted’s work as a member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and the Senate Appropriations Committee. In these roles, Husted has been a strong advocate for strengthening Ohio’s infrastructure and ensuring that appropriated funds are obligated to projects that will serve Ohioans. In September 2026, Husted secured funding for the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority . In August 2026, Husted secured funding for the City of Toledo and City of Fairfield infrastructure projects. In July 2026, Husted also announced that he secured $50 million in BUILD funding for Ohio infrastructure projects.
