Grassley-Backed Infrastructure Law Delivers Millions for Iowa to Fund Safer Streets, Trucker Workforce Training and More
WASHINGTON –Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) welcomed announcements from the Department of Transportation (DOT) that Iowa will receive millions in funding to support programs aimed at building safer streets and roads, bolstering public safety and supporting Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) operator training. Funding for each grant comes from theInfrastructure Investment and Jobs Act(IIJA), which Grassley supported in 2021.
“Iowans rely on sound infrastructure to stay connected with loved ones and move our world-class agriculture products and manufactured goods to market. These grants are welcome news for Iowa drivers, our state’s economy and Iowans looking to pursue their career goals. I was glad to support the bipartisan infrastructure law, which continues to invest in Iowa and will pay dividends for decades to come,”Grassley said.
TheSafe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A)grant program was created under the bipartisan infrastructure law and funds initiatives to prevent roadway fatalities and serious injuries. Iowa is set to receive $17.4 million from DOT, including:
TheHigh Priority Commercial Motor Vehicle(HP-CMV) program provides financial assistance to enhance commercial vehicle safety and implement innovative projects that support CMV safety.Iowa is set to receive $4.41 million from this program, including:
TheHigh Priority Innovative Technology Deployment(HP-ITD) funds innovative and impactful projects to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities involving large trucks and buses. Award information follows:
The Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training (CMVOST) grants were allocated in theInfrastructure Investment and Jobs Actto strengthen the local economy through job creation, enhanced connectivity and supply chain improvements. Iowa will receive $518,134, including:
