The bill overturns Washington, D.C.’s sanctuary city policies and requires the District to fully cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. “Sanctuary laws put Americans in danger, and what we’re seeing in cities like Los Angeles is exactly why this can’t continue,” said Congressman Harrigan. “This act is a step toward restoring law and order in our capital. We need to keep codifying President Trump’s executive actions and make it clear that if you are in this country illegally and commit a crime, you will be removed.” The act codifies President Trump’s executive order by nullifying the Local Law Enforcement Immigration Notification Act and any similar D.C. laws that block cooperation with federal authorities. It ensures that law enforcement in the nation’s capital follows the same rules expected everywhere else in America.
