Senators Markey Statement on House Introduction of COPPA 2.0
Washington (December 2, 2025) - Senators Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), member of the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee today released the following statement following the House’s introduction of theChildren and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA 2.0).
“I am disappointed that House Republicans are pushing forward a weaker version ofCOPPA 2.0that would strip states of essential tools to safeguard children and teens online. The Senate version ofCOPPA 2.0reflects years of careful work and strong consensus among a broad, bipartisan group of stakeholders. Weakening these protections is a gift to Big Tech and a blow to families. The House should abandon these changes and prioritize protecting young people over Big Tech’s bottom line.”
Senator MarkeyreintroducedCOPPA 2.0in the Senate in March 2025.In June 2025,COPPA 2.0passed unanimouslythrough the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee.
