Landsman Voted to Stop Insider Trading and Voter Suppression
Resources / Democracy Share on Landsman Voted to Stop Insider Trading and Voter Suppression Jul 22, 2026 Democracy Press Cincinnati, OH – Today, Congressman Greg Landsman (D-OH-01) released the following statement after voting against Congressional Republicans’ Stop Insider Trading Act: I voted to stop voter suppression and insider trading. This bill had two purposes: make it harder for Americans to vote and codify insider trading in Congress. The bill includes aspects of Trump’s voter suppression bill the “SAVE America Act,” which will prevent tens of millions of Americans from voting. If Americans do not have the exact photo ID spelled out in the bill, they cannot vote. In addition to the voter suppression language, the bill codifies stock trading in Congress. The bill allows members to continue owning individual stocks. It allows members to continue selling individual stocks. It even allows members to continue buying stocks in certain circumstances. Congress must ban members from owning, buying, or selling any individual stock while in office. No loopholes, no exceptions. I supported an amendment to replace this bill with the Restore Trust in Government Act, which actually bans members of Congress from owning, buying, or selling stocks. Public trust in our government is at an all-time low. Every member of Congress should want to be part of the generation that earns this trust back. BACKGROUND Landsman is one of the few Members of Congress to sell all his individual stocks. He has also introduced two bills this Congress to ban members of Congress, their spouses, and dependents from owning or trading stocks – the No Profiting off Public Service Act and the Drain the Swamp Act . ### Share on

This bill has only two purposes: make it harder for Americans to vote and codify insider trading. This bill is a voter suppression bill in disguise, which could prevent tens of millions of Americans from voting if they don’t have a photo ID with their current name and address. We should be helping people vote – not making it harder or impossible. This bill codifies insider trading. It gives members of Congress permission to continue owning and selling individual stocks. It even allows members to continue buying stocks in certain circumstances. Congress must pass a bill to ban members from owning, buying, or selling individual stocks while in office. No loopholes, no exceptions. I supported an amendment to replace this bill with the Restore Trust in Government Act, which actually bans members of Congress from owning, buying, or selling stocks. It was rejected. Public trust in our government is at an all-time low. Every member of Congress should want to be part of the generation that earns this trust back.
