Bennet Statement on House’s Failed Veto Override Vote
Jan 8, 2026|Press Releases
Washington, D.C.— Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet released the following statement after the House failed to override President Trump’s veto of the Finish the Arkansas Valley Conduit Act:
“With their vote to uphold President Trump’s veto of the Finish the AVC Act, House Republicans abandoned rural Colorado and denied tens of thousands of Coloradans affordable clean drinking water. Today’s vote is an outrageous abdication of duty. They have willingly surrendered their legislative responsibility, forfeiting their obligation to represent the best interests of the people they serve.
“By allowing this veto to stand, Congress has set a dangerous precedent. It means that non-controversial, bipartisan bills that pass without objection can be rejected for reasons wholly unrelated to their substance, and weaponized politically.
“Make no mistake, this was part of the President’s vindictive war on Colorado because he is frustrated with our state for not bending the knee.
“Today marks another grim day for the future of our democracy.”
