Senator Kim Focuses on Ways to Meet Workforce and Resource Needs to Support Seniors at First Aging Committee Hearing

WASHINGTON D.C. –Today,Senator Andy Kimfocused on addressing workforce and resource needs for America’s seniors and caregivers during his first hearing of the Senate Special Committee on Aging. Senator Kim, during the hearing entitled“Improving Wellness Among Seniors: Setting a Standard for the American Dream”also shared his personal experience struggling to navigate care for an aging parent.

“The challenge is often, at least for my family and many that I’ve talked to, you’re often experiencing some of this in an emergency situation when things have changed dramatically in your life,”said Senator Kim. “Is there ways that we can ramp up better, prepare people better, so it isn’t under this crucible of pressure and emotion in terms of trying to get to it.”
Senator Kim’s questions to the witnesses included how we can learn from states and communities succeeding at meeting workforce needs as well as ways we can better connect seniors and their caregivers to the resources they need, especially within hard to reach and underserved populations.
Senator Kim is a member of the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP); the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and the Special Committee on Aging. Before being elected to the U.S. Senate, Kim represented New Jersey’s Third Congressional District in the U.S. House and was a career public servant working in national security and diplomacy at the White House, State Department, and Pentagon.
