Booker Announces More Than $4.4 Million in Environmental and Public Health Investments for New Jersey

WASHINGTON, D.C . – Today, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) proudly announces more than $4.4 million in new federal investments to strengthen environmental protection and public health across New Jersey. These awards will support efforts ranging from cleaning up contaminated brownfield properties to expanding access to safe drinking water and improving the state's ability to respond to stranded and entangled marine mammals. Together, these investments will help protect coastal ecosystems, expand access to clean water, and build healthier communities across New Jersey. "These investments will make a real difference for communities across our state," said Senator Booker. "They mean cleaner land, safer drinking water, and stronger programs for our marine and coastal ecosystems — and they help ensure that New Jerseyans have the healthy environment they deserve." Senator Booker was an active supporter of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act , which provides funding for EPA Brownfield Grants. He also supported the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Ac t, which funds the Small, Rural, and Tribal (SmaRT) Drinking Water Assistance Program. In addition, he supported annual appropriations for the John H. Prescott Marine Mammal Rescue Assistance Grant Program, which funds marine mammal stranding response efforts. New Jersey received the following federal awards: $2,500,000 — City of Camden EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grant to remediate contaminated land at the former S. Yaffa & Sons site $500,000 — City of Egg Harbor City EPA Brownfields Assessment Grant to evaluate and plan cleanup of multiple contaminated and former industrial sites $500,000 — Maurice River Township EPA Brownfields Assessment Grant to conduct environmental assessments and develop cleanup and reuse plans $500,000 — City of Trenton EPA Brownfields Assessment Grant to support assessments in the Chestnut Park, Chambersburg, and Greenwood neighborhoods $370,000 — EPA WIIN/SmaRT Drinking Water Grant to improve water infrastructure and address PFAS and lead contamination $91,533 — NOAA Prescott Marine Mammal Rescue Assistance Grant to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center for rescue, response, and outreach In total, these awards represent $4,461,533 in federal investments for New Jersey communities.
