Miller, Colleagues Call on USTR to Push Back Against Australia’s Discriminatory Treatment of American Digital Companies

September 3, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) joined her colleagues in sending a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer opposing Australia’s discriminatory taxes and fines targeting American digital service providers. Just last month, Australia’s Parliament passed the News Bargaining Charge Bill 2026, which imposes a 2.75% tax on certain American digital service providers, ultimately undermining U.S. commerce. This letter urges Ambassador Greer to oppose these measures before they have serious negative effects on American businesses, commercial interests, and the U.S. economy.
