Congressman Shri Thanedar Signs Discharge Petition to Force Vote on Bipartisan Faster Labor Contracts Act
June 16, 2026 Congressman Shri Thanedar Signs Discharge Petition to Force Vote on Bipartisan Faster Labor Contracts Act Washington, D.C. — Congressman Shri Thanedar (MI-13) cosigned onto H.Res.1140 a discharge position that seeks to force a house vote on The Faster Labor Contracts Act. “Right now, it takes an average of 458 days for unions and employers to reach a first contract. That is far too long,” said Rep. Thanedar. “When workers vote to form a union, their employer should not be allowed to drag out negotiations and delay a fair agreement. Collective bargaining is a fundamental right, and it is essential to improving wages, hours, and working conditions.” The Faster Labor Contracts Act will speed up first contracts for new unions, ensuring that when workers vote to unionize, a collective bargaining agreement follows. This important legislation will ensure that when workers vote to form a union, employers are not allowed to drag out negotiations on a first collective bargaining agreement. The right of workers to form a union and collectively bargain is central to improving wages, hours, working conditions, and more. Unfortunately, despite strong bipartisan support and over 25 endorsing labor unions, Speaker Mike Johnson has blocked the bill from advancing. The full text of the bill can be viewed here .
