“Pflaming HOT”: Central Texas Senator Sarah Eckhardt Celebrates Passage of
Bill Allowing Pflugerville to Collect Hotel Occupancy Taxes for Convention
Center Project
AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Senate passed Senator Eckhardt’s SB 1071, permitting the City of
Pflugerville to levy a hotel occupancy tax supporting the construction of a convention
center.
“Pflugerville is one of the hottest communities in my district with new neighbors and
businesses opening doors every day to call it home,” said Senator Eckhardt. “And now
Pflugerville will be one step closer to building a permanent home for its vital tourism
industry that will create more jobs and opportunities as people from across Texas come to
visit, generating revenue to fund the convention center. I can’t wait to attend more
exciting Pfestivals and events in the coming years once the center is fully funded and
functional.”
Sarah Eckhardt is the third-term Democratic State Senator representing District 14, comprising Austin and
surrounding areas. She serves on the Administration, Border Security, Nominations, and Veterans Affairs
committees in the 89th Legislative Session, and has previously served on the Water, Agriculture, & Rural
Affairs and Local Government committees. A proud UT Law and Public Affairs alum, Senator Eckhardt was
the first woman to serve as Travis County Judge from 2014-2020.
