Congressman Vicente Gonzalez Announces $2.5 Million in Federal Funding for City of Brownsville Public Works

September 9, 2026 Press Release Contact: Alexis Torres Brownsville, Texas – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced $2.5 million in federal funding for the City of Brownsville Public Works Department to support the design and construction of the Marina Industrial Park, including roadway, water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure. The funds are delivered through the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) and estimated to create 590 new jobs and leverage over $18 million in private investment. The total projected cost of this project is $4,395,000. “Brownsville has quickly become a prime attraction for American manufacturers and businesses to call our city home. We must have the transportation and infrastructure in place to meet these heightened demands for economic growth. This funding helps us get there while creating hundreds of new jobs and bringing millions of dollars in new opportunities to the Rio Grande Valley. When we invest in local development, we invest in the future of South Texas,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “Brownsville is attracting new industries, creating quality jobs, and strengthening its role as a leading hub for international trade and manufacturing. This $2.5 million federal investment in the Marina Industrial Park will further support our effort to build the critical infrastructure needed to support that growth, while leveraging more than $18 million in private investment and creating new jobs. The Marina Industrial Park will include five state-of-the-art multi-tenant industrial buildings: four buildings of 150,000 square feet each and one slightly smaller facility of 140,000 square feet. Located on FM 511 in Brownsville’s northern industrial corridor, the new Industrial Park is an ideal gateway for manufacturers to supply goods across North America as it is near two interstate highways, four international bridges, the Port of Brownsville, three international airports, and a U.S.-Mexico rail crossing. Through the Public Works program, EDA provides catalytic investments to help communities build, design, or engineer critical infrastructure and facilities that position communities to become more economically competitive.
