Vasquez Announces Another Milestone: Over $7.6 Million Returned to New Mexicans

Vasquez’s office has now returned more than $7.6 million in federal benefits and assistance to New Mexicans that they were owed WASHINGTON, D.C. – On September 9, 2026, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) announced that his office has returned more than $7.6 million to constituents in New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District through casework services, just over a month since announcing the $6 million milestone. Rep. Vasquez’s casework team helps constituents cut past red tape and resolve issues with federal agencies, including the IRS, Social Security Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, and more. “I’m incredibly proud of this milestone for our office and most importantly, for the $7.6 million we’ve returned to our constituents,” said Vasquez. “My staff and I remain laser-focused on helping every constituent that walks through our door navigate the excessive red tape in federal agencies, resolve their issues, and get justice and the money they are owed. Our work for New Mexicans continues.” “I retired from the military on 31-Dec-25. Working with DFAS and other Military agencies, I hadn’t received retirement payment or proper deductions for 8 months. I contacted Gabe Vasquez’s office and they spoke with DFAS and the Air Force on my behalf. Gabe Vasquez’s office had everything corrected within 10 business days of them starting their inquiry on my behalf,” said Jacob of Holloman AFB. “I contacted Congressman Vasquez for help regarding the delay I was experiencing with the Social Security Administration in converting my spousal benefits to survivor benefits after my husband's death. I was quite frustrated for several months after I had made repeated calls to SSA to find out when they would make this adjustment. In just a week after contacting Congressman Vasquez I was delighted to receive my retroactive payments and notice that I would from now on receive my new monthly survivor benefits,” said Sara of Albuquerque. “My 2025 tax return was set aside and not processed for an administrative reason, holding up my refund. [Vasquez’s Office] responded quickly to my request for help and was able to resolve the issue holding up the processing of my return and just as quickly I received my refund. Good government in action. I am deeply appreciative ,” said Michael of Truth or Consequences.
