Congressman Mfume Statement on Republican Passage of ICE & CBP Funding via Reconciliation

Image June 10, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07) issued the following statement regarding last night's passage of S.2 (also known as Reconciliation 2.0) in the House of Representatives: "Last night, Republicans handed ICE and CBP another $70 billion with zero reforms, zero oversight, and zero accountability attached. These agencies are already sitting on $100 billion in unspent funds from the Big Ugly Bill, and Republicans could not be bothered to include a single guardrail," said Congressman Kweisi Mfume. "ICE has killed American citizens, arrested tens of thousands of people with no criminal history, and separated children from their parents. Having seen firsthand the abuses carried out at the Baltimore Field Office, I know that what this agency needs is serious reform and meaningful oversight, not more money and a blank check from a Republican-controlled Congress that refuses to do its job," he continued. "While American families are dealing with rising prices, shrinking paychecks, and cuts to the health care and nutrition programs they depend on, Republicans once again chose to make funding an unaccountable deportation machine their top priority. That is why I proudly voted no on this dangerous bill," he concluded. ### Issues : Congress
