Representative John W. Mannion Announces Federal Public Safety Funding for Utica and Oneida County

August 13, 2026 Press Release $35,469 federal grant will support criminal investigations and alternatives to incarceration UTICA, N.Y. – Representative John W. Mannion today announced that the City of Utica and Oneida County will receive $35,469 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. Representative John W. Mannion said, “Everyone deserves to live in a safe community, and this federal grant will provide local law enforcement with additional tools to fight crime and protect residents. It will support the police officers and probation professionals working every day to keep Utica and Oneida County safe.” The Utica Police Department will use its portion of the award to increase patrols in areas experiencing high levels of violent crime and purchase equipment and software used for tactical response and criminal investigations. The Oneida County Probation Department will use the funding to strengthen supervision of individuals participating in electronic monitoring as an alternative to incarceration. The funding was awarded by the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. The program provides federal resources to state and local governments for law enforcement, crime prevention, corrections, technology, and other public safety initiatives. # # #
