Crapo Joins Cassidy to Urge U.S. Department of Labor to Ditch Democrat Heat Rule Proposal

Washington, D.C.--U.S. Senator for Idaho Mike Crapo joined U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-Louisiana) and 15 additional Senate Republican colleagues in penning a letter to urge the U.S. Department of Labor to protect American workers from the Biden Administration’s disastrous proposed heat rule.
The Biden-era proposed rule would mandate all businesses, no matter their safety record, size, location or industry, comply with onerous requirements on safety staffing, recordkeeping and mandatory breaks at high-heat triggers that can create dangerous hazards for some workers. The one-size-fits-all proposal is inefficient, dangerous, threatens job opportunities and hurts local businesses.
“We represent the states of Louisiana, Idaho, North Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, Texas and Montana which have experience with high temperatures and whose workplaces have already developed strategies for protecting workers,”wrote the Senators.“Protecting workers from a common and easily understandable workplace hazard does not require a prescriptive rule that will cause confusion and, in several circumstances, may even undermine worker safety. Workers and businesses thrive when there are clear standards that are flexible, understandable and pragmatic.”
Crapo and Cassidy were joined on the letter by U.S. Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Thom Tillis (R-North Carolina), Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Mississippi), James Lankford (R-Oklahoma), Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin), Eric Schmitt (R-Missouri), Jim Banks (R-Indiana), Katie Britt (R-Alabama), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ted Budd (R-North Carolina), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Tim Sheehy (R-Montana) and Steve Daines (R-Montana).
