Cassidy Meets with Business, Community Leaders from One Acadiana
LAFAYETTE – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today visited Lafayette, where he met with Ambassadors for One Acadiana, the chamber of commerce for Lafayette and Acadiana’s leading economic development organization. He discussed his work to create jobs, support local businesses, and make life more affordable for Louisianans. “We’re building a Louisiana where Acadiana’s next generation wants to stay and raise a family,” said Dr. Cassidy. “I’ve cut taxes, secured funding for roads, bridges, and local airports, and strengthened public safety to do just that. Cassidy has taken steps to support Lafayette’s workers and business owners, including by supporting President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cut bill . The legislation, which was passed into law last year, eliminated taxes on tips and overtime work and extended the Child Tax Credit. Cassidy also included provisions to expand access to workforce training and require the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management to expand offshore lease sales for oil and gas. Lafayette Parish has also benefitted from Cassidy’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. That includes millions for roads and bridges, including $163 million for the Atchafalaya Basin, $59 million for the Lafayette Regional Airport’s terminal and safety projects, $30 million for a Cameron Parish Crown Substation to help it withstand flooding and wind, and $4 million for the St. Landry and St. Martin airports for runway signage, airfield lighting, and runway markings. Additionally on Wednesday, Cassidy unveiled a comprehensive plan to bring energy costs down, cut permitting delays, and end unnecessary restrictions on domestic energy production. One Acadiana’s Ambassadors meet monthly to discuss regional initiatives, chamber member recruitment and retention, and opportunities for community involvement with the chamber. They also support local businesses by attending ribbon cutting celebrations, grand openings, and other community events. Cassidy was thanked by Troy Wayman, President and CEO of One Acadiana, for speaking with them. “We appreciate Senator Cassidy joining our 1A Ambassador meeting and engaging directly with members of Acadiana’s business community,” said Mr. Wayman. “It was a valuable opportunity to hear about current priorities in the Senate, issues relevant to both our state and region, and how his office can serve as a resource for local businesses.” ###
