Crow Discusses National Security, Bipartisanship with Center for a New American Security
June 12, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON — Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO), a former paratrooper and Army Ranger who serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and House Armed Services Committee, joined Center for a New American Security at their annual national security conference to discuss Congress’ role in national security and how to work across the aisle in this era of partisanship. On the panel titled “The View from the Hill: Congress's Role in National Security,” Crow was joined by House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-WA) and Congressman Don Bacon (R-NE). The panel was moderated by CNAS Robert M. Gates Senior Fellow and General Counsel Carrie Cordero. Image Below are excerpts from Congressman Crow during the discussion, which can be viewed here : On Iran: “The information coming out of the Administration is inconsistent at best and misleading at worst. So, we’re spending tremendous amounts of money, tens of billions of dollars, somewhere between $50 and $100 billion probably to date—we haven't been able to get a good number on what this has cost us. There are engagements daily. There's really no effective ceasefire. We lost an Apache helicopter, and gratefully, the two crew members were rescued. That was nothing short of a miracle. Our servicemembers remain at great risk there, and Americans are paying for it.” On Artificial Intelligence: “AI is going to be a component—and has to be a component—of our strategy in our military going forward. We are not having the level of conversations, though, on some of the risks that we need to have, right? The use of AI and targeting being a good example…I'm somebody that believes that there always must be a human involved in the kill chain, and that we should not be making decisions to take lives based on an AI algorithm. We need to be able to make those decisions as humans, and those are discussions that we're going to have to have.” On Procurement and Acquisition Reform: “We're still not in a position where we can buy things and field them even remotely as quick as they can in Ukraine, for example, where the innovation cycle is in days. They have a daily innovation cycle. Ours are in a two-to-three-year innovation cycle. That's not going to cut it. So we need to crunch that down, and there's a tremendous amount of bipartisanship on that.” Congressman Crow continues to lay out his affirmative vision for Colorado and the country, including with recent remarks envisioning the Future of American Foreign Policy and promoting a New American Patriotism . Crow is looking to build a future that brings Americans together, protects our democracy, and ensures leaders are accountable to working class Americans. ### Issues : National Security
