Cassidy Sounds Alarm of Looming Social Security Deadline, Discusses Health Care Affordability at Semafor Future of Health Forum

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) discussed a wide range of pressing issues as Congress comes to a close, ranging from health care affordability to Social Security’s looming insolvency, to the future of college athletics , during this week’s Semafor Future of Health Forum. As Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, Cassidy highlighted the recently passed bipartisan Patients Deserve Price Tags Act , which gives patients and employers greater transparency into health care costs. Cassidy also warned that the clock is ticking for Congress to address Social Security’s looming insolvency, stressing that delaying action will only make the issue more difficult and expensive to solve. “Health care is one of the few things in which you don’t know how much it’s going to cost when you walk in the door,” said Dr. Cassidy. “Our Patients Deserve Price Tags Act will do that for the patient. And it’ll do it in a way which prevents a lot of the arbitrage to maximize profits for intermediaries, but to maximize savings for the patient, the employer, and the employee.” “The window is closing, closing, closing,” said Dr. Cassidy. “But the longer you wait to fix Social Security, the worse it gets. And it doesn’t just get worse marginally. It gets worse a percentage point, another percentage point, and so on.” ###
