Sens. Ossoff, Rev. Warnock Demanding Answers Following Reports that CDC Repairs Still Delayed After Shooting

Washington, D.C.— U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock are demanding answers after reports that the CDC Atlanta Campus is still in need of repairs and improvements following last year’s shooting.
Last August, a gunman attacked the CDC’s Clifton campus and fired hundreds of rounds into six buildings, killing DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose during the attack.
Recentreportingfrom The Associated Press revealed that damage caused by the shooting remains, despite Federal funding and direction for the U.S. Health and Human Services Department to make necessary building repairs and improve security at the CDC.
The most recent government funding bill included $100 million to repair CDC buildings and improve physical security on campus. This funding was secured following efforts by Sen. Warnock, who filed anamendment, cosponsored by Sen. Ossoff, during the appropriations process to ensure CDC received adequate resources.
“In the aftermath [of the shooting], images of hundreds of the bullet holes in the windows of multiple windows were made public. Shockingly, those bullet holes remain today,”Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock wrote to HHS Secretary RFK Jr.“This is unacceptable. You must take immediate action to repair and safeguard the CDC Atlanta campus.”
Sen. Ossoff continues working to protect public health, the CDC, and its workforce.
Sen. Ossoff worked with Republicans and Democrats toensurethe CDC receives crucial funding to protect the American people, successfully defeating the Trump Administration’s proposed 50% cut in funding for the CDC in the FY26 budget.
Last October, Sen. Ossoff led Georgia’s Democratic Congressional Delegation incalling onU.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to answer for the chaos and disruption at the CDC that has marked his tenure, including the firings of CDC employees.
Last June, Sen. Ossoffspokein the Appropriations Committee markup of the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education funding bill about bipartisan efforts to protect the CDC.
Also in June, Sen. Ossoffdemandedanswers from the Trump Administration following anNPR reportthat the CDC Program to prevent fentanyl overdoses had been frozen.
In 2025, Sen. Ossoff and other members of Congressdemandedthat the Trump Administration provide answers on thereported shutdownof a critical Maternal Health data system at the CDC.
