VIDEO: Ricketts on Combatting Communist China in the AI Race

This week, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) discussed his work to counter Communist China and ensure American dominance in artificial intelligence in a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing.  Ricketts highlighted his Multilateral Alignment of Technology Controls on Hardware (MATCH) Act, a bipartisan bill that would strengthen U.S. export controls to ensure adversaries cannot buy “chokepoint” semiconductor manufacturing equipment (SME) technology from the United States or our partners that they cannot build themselves. “A world where Communist China is dominant in AI is very bad for the United States and for the entire world,” said Ricketts. “That’s why it’s critical that us and our allies cannot lose this race. Semiconductor supply chains, particularly semiconductor manufacturing equipment — SMEs — are critical to winning this competition.” Watch the video here. Ricketts’ comments were made in a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing: “Review of the FY27 State Department Budget Request.” The witness was Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
