Rosen Calls on Trump Administration to Reinstate Thousands of VA Medical Positions

WASHINGTON, DC –Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) called on Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins to immediately reinstate the thousands of medical positions that have been eliminated by the Trump Administration. According to a recentanalysisby theNew York Times, more than 14,000 medical positions have been eliminated in the VA’s health care division at a time when more than 90 percent of the VA’s facilities report a severe shortage of doctors. While the VA has acknowledged that there are shortages, no significant action has been taken to fill those vacancies.
“At a time when veterans are already facing challenges accessing health care, the VA should be doing everything in its power to expand its capacity to treat those who sacrificed so much in service to our country; instead they’ve cut thousands of medical positions, and made the problem worse,”said Senator Rosen. “These cuts are directly hurting our veterans, who Secretary Collins is meant to look after, and I call on him to reinstate the thousands of medical positions immediately.”
Senator Rosen has been fighting for Nevada’s veterans. Last month, Senator Rosen successfully pushed the Trump administration toreverse policiesthat would have decreased benefits for disabled veterans. Last year, shedemanded answerson how these staffing cuts would impact care, andcalledon the VA to permanently reverse layoffs of VA employees in Nevada. She also helped introducelegislationto reinstate veterans wrongfully fired by President Trump and DOGE.
