Las Vegas, Nev. – Today, U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) toured West Sahara Senior Living, a new 171-unit community that provides affordable one- and two-bedroom apartments to Southern Nevadans over the age of 55. Before the tour, the Senators discussed Southern Nevada’s affordable housing needs with community leaders. The Senators talked about their work together to pass the 21 st Century ROAD to Housing Act . This law aims to help build more homes, including more affordable housing communities like West Saraha Senior Living, by removing regulatory red tape that slows down housing development, improving existing federal housing programs, and authorizing new affordable housing grant programs. “This year, Congress passed the biggest housing law in more than 30 years: the 21 st Century ROAD to Housing Act ,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “Senator Warren and I worked tirelessly to get this bill passed and to ensure it included provisions to stop big corporations from buying up homes. I’m glad that she could join me today to hear firsthand how much this law will mean to Nevadans.” “It was good to be in Nevada and hear from local leaders about how the state is building more housing and helping to lower costs. Senator Cortez Masto was a leader in passing the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act that will increase housing supply and restricts out-of-state Wall Street investors from buying up homes. It’s a good step forward to address the housing affordability crisis, and Senator Cortez Masto and I will keep working to bring down housing costs,” said Senator Warren. Senator Cortez Masto has been a leader working to lower housing costs and build more homes. She secured $40 million last year and more than $25 million so far this year in investments from the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco to support the single-family bond program in Nevada. She has introduced bipartisan legislation to make homeownership more accessible and sustainable for working families, increase transparency at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and improve federal rural housing programs. Last Congress, her AACE Act to cut red tape to speed up federal land transactions and lower housing costs was signed into law. ###
