Cubin May 20, 2026 Washington D.C. — Today, legislation introduced by U.S. Senators Cynthia Lummis and John Barrasso, and Representative Harriet Hageman (all R-WY), to rename the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center in Casper the “Barbara L. Cubin National Historic Trails Interpretive Center” passed the U.S. Senate. “Few have left a legacy as enduring in the Cowboy State as Barbara Cubin,” said Lummis. “As the first woman to represent Wyoming at the federal level, she served our state with distinction and helped pave the way for generations of American women in public service. I am proud to carry forward the remarkable legacy of my friend, Barbara, and to honor the extraordinary contributions she has made to Wyoming. I look forward to seeing this legislation make its way to President Trump’s desk.” “As the first woman to represent Wyoming in the U.S. Congress, Barbara Cubin demonstrated incredible leadership and strength,” said Barrasso. “Our legislation provides a wonderful opportunity to recognize Barbara’s legacy and record of public service. I look forward to the House passing it soon so we can celebrate Barbara’s outstanding contributions to the people of Wyoming.” “Barbara Cubin made history as the first woman elected to federal office in Wyoming and played a leading role in establishing the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center,” said Hageman. “Renaming the center in her honor recognizes her vision, leadership, and lasting contributions to our great state. Barbara is a dear friend and mentor to me and many others, and I am proud to work alongside Senators Barrasso and Lummis to ensure her legacy endures.” Background: In 1998, Rep. Barbara Cubin successfully passed legislation establishing the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center in Casper to tell the stories of westward migration in the U.S. The center is owned by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and is run through a public-private partnership with the BLM, the National Historic Trails Center Foundation and the City of Casper. Rep. Cubin was the first woman to win an election for federal office in the state of Wyoming and served as a founding member of the Congressional Western Caucus. She represented Wyoming in the U.S. House from 1995-2009. Facebook X Instagram
