Meuser Announces $2.8 Million in Federal Grants for PA-09 Fire Departments

October 7, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) announced that the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded nearly $2.8 million in federal grants to eleven fire departments across Pennsylvania’s Ninth Congressional District through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. The projects funded through these grants will provide professional training, personal protective equipment, modifications to facilities, firefighting and emergency response apparatus, including fire trucks, and supplies that support firefighting and non-affiliated EMS operations and safety. “In addition to being the first to respond when fires, accidents, and disasters threaten lives and property, firefighters also provide assistance during medical emergencies, rescue operations, and other dangerous situations,” said Congressman Meuser. “Much of the funding for volunteer fire companies comes from residents through charity carnivals and other private donations. I’m pleased to play a role in securing funding for fire departments throughout our district to obtain the equipment, training, and facilities they need to do the job. Thank you to all our firefighters and everyone who supports their lifesaving work.” The Fire Departments in Pennsylvania that will benefit from these funds include: Mildred Volunteer Fire Department, Mildred, Sullivan County: $571,428 Friendship Fire Company of Englewood, Frackville, Schuylkill County: $534,952.72 Newmanstown Volunteer Fire Company, Newmanstown, Lebanon County: $428,346 Dorrance Township Volunteer Fire Department, Dorrance, Luzerne County: $342,346 Washington Fire Co.
