Fischer Introduces Legislation to Bolster America’s Nuclear Enterprise

Today, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Chair of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, introduced the
NNSA Infrastructure Improvements Act of 2025
to bolster America’s nuclear enterprise.
The legislation would empower the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to prioritize modernizing America’s nuclear infrastructure by following through on the steps outlined in its
Enterprise Blueprint
report.
“Restoring peace through strength and keeping the homeland safe means maintaining a credible, modernized nuclear deterrent. We cannot meet the deterrence requirements of the future unless we recapitalize failing facilities and infrastructure dating back to the Manhattan Project.  My
NNSA Infrastructure Improvements Act
empowers the National Nuclear Security Administration to build upon the work they’ve done, and give Congress actionable information so that we responsibly plan for and fund the specialized facilities that help design, produce, and store the weapons needed to keep America safe,”
said Fischer.
Background:
Last year, the NNSA released its Enterprise Blueprint report, which outlined a 25-year roadmap to ensure that its recapitalization strategy for specialized production facilities and science and technology infrastructure is aligned with its weapons production requirements.
The
NNSA Infrastructure Improvements Act
would require the NNSA to continuously update its Enterprise Blueprint and give Congress actionable information to inform future policy and funding decisions.
