Jon Husted (R-Ohio) traveled across Ohio this week to meet with local leaders engaged in protecting Lake Erie and attend the ribbon cutting for a new manufacturing facility. Husted, joined by Rep. Bob Latta (R-Ohio), Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Director Mary Mertz and other leaders, was in Oregon to discuss the importance of preserving the Great Lakes and the impact of his legislation, the Great Lakes Fishery Research Reauthorization Act, which was recently signed into law. “Whether commercial or recreational, fishing is a staple of Ohio’s culture and economy, generating $5.5 billion for our state. It was great to spend time with these dedicated leaders focused on protecting our great lakes, our abundant water resources and our vital fishing industry,” said Husted. The Great Lakes Fishery Research Reauthorization Act reauthorized a program with dedicated funding to conduct critical research with direct impact on the multi-billion-dollar commercial fishing industry on the Great Lakes.
