Congressman Gonzalez Delivers Over $9 Million in Federal Funds for Cameron County

October 14, 2026 Press Release Federal funds will expand public parking for commercial truckers at Los Indios Port of Entry Washington, D.C.— Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced $9,182,608 in federal funds for Cameron County to reconstruct approximately 0.35 miles of Rio Grande Avenue and provide access to a new public commercial motor vehicle parking facility near the Los Indios Port of Entry. The project will include roughly 305 dedicated parking truck spaces. This investment will also support roadway improvements, driver amenities, security features, an automated weight station, and intelligent parking system technology. “South Texas is an international hub for trade and commerce, and our infrastructure must keep pace with heightened demands,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “As working families continue to struggle with rising costs, this $9.1 million federal investment will provide commercial truckers with support to maintain efficient operations when supplying our region and the rest of the country with goods and materials. As your Congressman, I proudly passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that authorized this funding, and I will continue working to ensure our ports of entry and the workers who keep it running have the resources they need to operate efficiently.” “We’re extremely grateful to the U.S. Department of Transportation for awarding Cameron County over $9 million for the Los Indios Bridge Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Parking Facility,” said Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. “Logistics and cross-border trade are vital to Cameron County’s economy. This investment will strengthen our connections with Mexico and improve our regional trade infrastructure by providing truck drivers with a dedicated, safe place to rest before continuing their routes. In turn, this project will help support more efficient cross-border commerce and strengthen supply chains across the nation.” Today’s announcement was made possible by Congressman Gonzalez’s support of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which was enacted in 2021 and provided $1.2 trillion to modernize America’s infrastructure, including roads, bridges, water and wastewater, clean energy and broadband access. Through the law’s five-year funding process, $7.25 billion was allocated to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects (INFRA) program to strengthen America’s supply chains and improve road safety nationwide. The Los Indios Port of Entry is one of 14 projects receiving designated funding for truck parking in Fiscal Year 2026. ### Issues : Transportation & Infrastructure Economy
