Highs and Lows: Good Fires
I have a very interesting high this week—so interesting that we’re going to skip the low and go right to the high. There are good fires and bad fires. This week, I joined the U.S. Forest Service at a prescribed burn in Fishlake National Forest. Prescribed burns are carefully planned, controlled fires that take months and even years of preparation. Without this type of proactive management, forests can become overgrown, and fuels (think dead wood that catches fire easily) build up, threatening destructive wildfires.
