Van Hollen Statement on S.3933
Today, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) released the following statement on his vote on S.3933:
“We must keep our communities safe and prioritize the detention of violent offenders. I supported amendments to this legislation to directly address the circumstances that led to the terrible murder of Laken Riley, without creating a system that diverts resources away from the detention of violent offenders. Unfortunately, Republicans did not work with us to ensure these amendments – which would have improved the bill significantly – were considered or passed. Given these reservations, I voted against this legislation. I will continue working to improve public safety and fix our broken immigration system.”
