Senator Hassan Receives National Recognition for Bipartisan Policymaking from University of Cincinnati

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) was recently awarded the University of Cincinnati's Portman Center for Policy Solutions’ “Bipartisan Public Service Award.” Senator Hassan was recognized by former Senator Rob Portman (R-OH), the founder of the Center, for her committed record of bipartisanship and problem solving. Senator Hassan received the award in particular for her work to support people experiencing disabilities, combat the fentanyl crisis, and support our nation’s veterans. This award follows Senator Hassan’s recent recognition as the most effective U.S. Senator by Political Grades. “Granite Staters have always prioritized solutions over partisanship. That’s why I am dedicated to working with anyone to get things done for New Hampshire, including expanding middle class opportunity, supporting small businesses, and keeping America safe, secure, and free,” said Senator Hassan. “I am honored to receive this award and will continue working across the aisle to make life better and more affordable for Granite Staters.” Senator Hassan received the award in Cincinnati earlier this month. Senator Todd Young (R-IN) also received the award. The Portman Center for Policy Solutions recognizes one Republican and one Democratic office holder who exemplify the values of bipartisan, solutions-oriented governance in their work both in Washington, D.C., and their respective states. Established in 2023, the Portman Center’s mission is to encourage civility and bipartisanship in U.S. politics. In addition to this annual recognition, the center supports student fellows and civic leadership development, public policy internships for students, workshops and trainings, research, and an annual symposium. “I know firsthand that to get things done in Congress you need to work across the aisle. Maggie Hassan and Todd Young are two of the best bipartisan legislators, and our new ranking system verifies that. Senator Hassan has worked across the aisle to help pass multiple bills into law, including the No Surprises Act to protect patients from receiving unexpected medical bills; the PACT Act , a historic bill that fundamentally reforms and improves the ways in which veterans exposed to toxic substances receive health care and benefits from the VA; and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law , which includes a number of key provisions to help advance Granite State priorities. This year, two of Senator Hassan’s bipartisan measures to lower prescription drug costs passed into law : the Increasing Transparency in Generic Drug Applications Act to speed the approval of generic drugs and in turn lower prices for consumers, and the Patients Before Middlemen (PBM) Act to help stop pharmacy benefit managers from driving up prescription drug pricing for seniors. Senator Hassan was previously named a “ Bridge Builder ” by the non-partisan Bridge Pledge organization and the most bipartisan Member of Congress by the nonpartisan Common Ground Committee in 2024. ###
