Cortez Masto Honors the 25th Anniversary of September 11, 2001

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement in recognition of the 25 th anniversary of September 11 th , 2001: “I remember the morning of September 11, 2001, starting off like any other day. I was a federal prosecutor at the time, and I had gone to court that morning in Washington, D.C. for a hearing. I was outside in Judiciary Square, figuring out how to leave the evacuation area, when I heard a loud blast – what I later learned was the sound of the Pentagon crumbling after being hit by Flight 77. Twenty-five years later, I still don’t have words to describe the horror and the pain of that dark day in our nation’s history. And I know so many Americans feel the same. “On September 11 th , 2,977 people were killed in these terrorist attacks. Many more of our first responders lost their lives in the days and years to come as a result of exposure to toxins while they fought to save others at Ground Zero. As we come together to mark 25 years since this tragedy, we are reminded not just of the sadness and fear we all felt as these attacks unfolded, but also of the courage of so many heroes – from those first responders and our men and women in our armed forces, to everyday Americans who stepped up to lend a hand. “Today, let us keep all of those we lost in our thoughts, let us pray for their families and loved ones, and let us hold true to the words “we will never forget.” ###
