De La Cruz Holds Mexican Government Accountable in FY26 Government Funding

Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) announced that the language she requested to hold the Mexican government accountable was included in the FY26 National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Appropriations legislation. “For decades, the Government of Mexico has refused to comply with the 1944 Water Treaty without consequences. By including key language in the FY26 Appropriations legislation, we are ensuring the Mexican government does not receive American taxpayer dollars until they are in compliance with their obligated water deliveries." - Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz Background: Earlier this year, De La Cruz requested language in a letter to House Appropriations Committee, National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs (NSRP) Subcommittee Chairman Mario Diaz-Balart. The requested language withholds federal assistance for Mexico until the Secretary of State certifies to the Committee on Appropriations that the Government of Mexico has completed their agreed-upon water deliveries to the United States by Mexico, as prescribed by the 1944 Water Treaty.
