Senator Kim’s Statement on Trump Firing DHS Secretary Noem
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ), Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on Disaster Management, District of Columbia, and Census, released the following statement after President Trump announced he will be removing Kristi Noem from her role as Secretary of Homeland Security:
“Kristi Noem failed at the job, and she failed the American people. From Minneapolis to FEMA assistance, Americans have paid with their lives and livelihoods for her failures.
“The failure of this Administration doesn’t just rest on Noem. Stephen Miller, Tom Homan, and others need to be held accountable for the harm they’ve brought to our communities. Noem’s removal is only the start of getting rid of the deep rot of corruption in the Trump administration.”
Senator Kim has long-called for Secretary Noem’s removal, and just this week released aglaring reportalongside Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) that found her review policy for DHS grants and contracts has delayed FEMA’s ability to deliver disaster assistance to vulnerable communities. As a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee, Senator Kim has been working toconduct oversightof her manyfailuresat the agency.
