News Contact Us Share Your Opinion Federal Nominations Scheduling Request Storm Preparation About All News VIDEO: Senator Moody Takes to Senate Floor to Urge Immediate Unanimous Passage of Measure to Stop Congressional Insider Trading and Institute Voter ID Jul 28, 2026 WASHINGTON D.C. – Senator Ashley Moody took the Senate Floor last night to urge immediate unanimous passage of H.R. 7008, or the Stop Insider Trading Act, a bipartisan measure that would stop Congressional insider trading and institute nationwide voter ID requirements. “The American People expect results, and I didn’t come to the Senate to just listen as the vast majority of this country call for securing our elections and banning members from trading stocks,” said Senator Ashley Moody . “IT’S TIME TO ACT! I joined my colleagues on the floor last night to fight for America, ban congressional insider trading and pass voter ID. Both measures would restore trust in the People’s Government – something our country desperately needs.” BACKGROUND: Last night, Senator Moody took to the senate floor to move for unanimous consent on the Stop Insider Trading Act, which was passed by the House in bipartisan fashion last week. The act would generally prohibit Members of Congress and their spouses and dependent children from purchasing stocks and requiring public notice before selling stocks. The measure also would instate national voter ID requirements. Senator Moody has supported similar efforts in the Senate, and is an original cosponsor of the SAVE America Act. Senate Democrats objected to the measure. Senator Moody has fought to ban stock trading by members. Earlier this year, Senator Moody introduced the bipartisan Restore Trust in Congress Act to stop insider trading. The vast majority of Americans support voter ID—according to Pew Research Center, 83% of adults—including 76% of Black Americans and 82% of Hispanic Americans. According to a University of Maryland study, an overwhelming majority of 86% of American favor banning members of Congress from trading individual stocks, including 88% of Democrats and 81% of Independents.
