Schmitt Helps Secure $2.9 Million in FEMA Funding to Support St. Louisans as they Navigate the Tornado Recovery Process

U.S. SENATE — Today, U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) celebrated the City of St. Louis receiving $2.9 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding to continue disaster case management services for residents impacted by the May 16, 2025, EF3 tornado that devastated the St. Louis region. Senator Schmitt worked closely with the Trump Administration, Mayor Spencer, and Governor Kehoe to help secure the funding, which will support dedicated Disaster Case Managers through 2027 as they assist eligible residents in accessing available resources and navigating the complexities of disaster recovery programs. “Following last year’s devastating tornado, the St. Louis community rallied together in support of our neighbors, and I have been proud to partner with the Trump Administration, Mayor Spencer, and Governor Kehoe to help deliver essential relief as our community recovers. Thanks to this funding, eligible St. Louisans can partner with an expert team of disaster case managers to develop and carry out their long‑term recovery plans, including the strenuous application process for recovery programs. There’s still more work to be done, and we will continue to work together to deliver for St. Louis,” said Senator Schmitt. “This new funding is a lifeline for our residents,” said Mayor Cara Spencer. “Anything we can do to lend a hand during this difficult time, is critical. Thank you to Senator Eric Schmitt and his staff who have worked tirelessly to secure these federal resources for St. Louis tornado recovery.” The FEMA award will: Provide $2.9 million to continue disaster case management services through 2027. Fund dedicated Disaster Case Managers who help develop and carry out the resident’s long-term recovery plan, such as assisting eligible St. Louisans navigate disaster relief programs and applications. Support continued recovery efforts for St. Louis residents impacted by the May 16, 2025, tornado. The Missouri Department of Public Safety led the FEMA application and will oversee the program, while United Way will administer disaster case management services in partnership with nonprofit organizations, including the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, LifeWise, and HOPE. More than 1,500 St. Louis residents have applied for assistance through the disaster case management program. FEMA funding will begin on August 1, ensuring those services continue as recovery efforts move forward. ###
