Senator Andy Kim Statement on Declaration of Famine in Gaza City
WASHINGTON, D.C.–Today,Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ)released the following statement following thedeclaration of faminein Gaza City:
“Today’s declaration of famine in Gaza City must be a wake up call to the international community that this conflict needs to end.
“I have pressed the Netanyahu government to take real steps to ensure the full access and direct delivery of food to Gazans, but they have so far refused to change course and have repeatedly denied the existence of hunger and starvation. We all must condemn Hamas for the continued suffering of hostages like Evyatar David as well as their disregard for the people of Gaza that is fueling the starvation. Still, Hamas’ brutality does not lessen Israel’s responsibility for protecting civilians.
“These conditions will only be worsened if the Israeli military seeks to further occupy Gaza. The time is now to stop the hunger and this conflict. I call on the Trump and Netanyahu Administrations to immediately reverse the current dangerous trajectory and take action to save lives.”
