June 4, 2026 Press Release Joins Rep. Sanford Bishop to lead bipartisan caucus representing a $52 billion industry and more than 1.3 million American jobs Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger (R-TN) today announced she has been named Co-Chair of the Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus alongside Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-GA). The bipartisan caucus, which counts 48 members across both chambers, advocates for the automotive performance, specialty, and motorsports industries and their contributions to the American economy. Congresswoman Harshbarger succeeds the late Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA), who served as Co-Chair until his passing. “Motorsports and automotive performance are woven into the fabric of American culture and support an industry that drives innovation, fuels small businesses, and sustains more than a million jobs across the country,” said Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger. “From manufacturers and suppliers to racers, collectors, and enthusiasts, this industry represents the ingenuity and craftsmanship that make America exceptional. I’m honored to serve as Co-Chair of the Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus alongside Congressman Bishop, and I look forward to working in a bipartisan way to support an industry that means so much to our economy and to communities like ours in East Tennessee.” “Cars and motorsports embody America’s creative spirit, technological innovation, grit, and drive,” said Congressman Bishop . “I look forward to working with Congresswoman Harshbarger to support these engineering marvels which push the limits of competition, are iconic national treasures, and inspire new generations of collectors and enthusiasts.” BACKGROUND The Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus was formed in 1996 in honor of the 100th year of the car and to recognize the contributions of the automotive performance and motorsports industry to the U.S. economy. Consumer sales of motor vehicle performance, appearance, comfort, convenience, and technology products total $52 billion annually, while providing jobs for more than 1.3 million Americans. Growing exports of U.S. automotive specialty products have been welcomed by consumers worldwide and have contributed to leveling the nation's trade imbalance. The motorsports industry has also grown significantly over the decades. Today, hundreds of thousands of amateur and professional participants compete in motorsports events throughout the United States, attracting attendance in excess of 18 million people. Motorsports events rank among the most widely attended of all U.S. sports. Collector cars have also played an integral role in fostering America's love for motorsports. From pre-World War II classics and 1960s muscle cars to street rods and custom cars, these vehicles stand as testimony to American ingenuity and craftsmanship, serve as a resource for contemporary automobile design, and provide recreation for enthusiasts and collectors across the country.
