Following Sen. Ossoff’s Push, Historic Pay Raise for Junior Enlisted Personnel to Begin this Month
Washington, D.C. —Following U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff’s push, junior-enlisted military personnel in Georgiawill begin receiving a record pay raise this month.
In December, a historic 14.5% pay increase for junior-enlisted personnel across Georgia wassigned into lawas part of this past year’sNational Defense Authorization Act(NDAA).
TheNDAAdelivered a basic pay increase of 4.5% to all servicemembers, while the most junior servicemembers across all branches of the Armed Forces received an additional 10% increase in pay.
“Young people are not going into national service and national security for the money. They’re doing it because they care about defending the United States and the American people, and they are terribly underpaid,”Sen. Ossoff said.“I made it one of my highest priorities to pass a record pay raise for junior-enlisted personnel in the military, and bringing Republicans and Democrats together, we got it done.”
Sen. Ossoff continues to champion Georgia’s servicemembers and military families.
Last month, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnocklaunched an inquirywith the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) over reported delays and miscommunication impacting and generating uncertainty for Georgia’s servicemembers and their families when moving to a new duty station through private contractors.
Sens. Ossoff and Warnock alsoraised concernswith the Department of Defense regarding conditions at military dining facilities and access to healthy food options on installations.
In February, Sen. Ossoff and a group of Senatorsurged the Trump Administrationto resume the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) work investigating and enforcing protections for military families and veterans against predatory lenders.
