HYDE-SMITH PRAISES TRUMP ADMIN. ACTION TO OVERTURN BIDEN VA-FUNDED ABORTIONS RULE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), chair of the Senate Pro-Life Caucus, today issued the following statement praising President Trump for acting to repeal a Biden-era rule that turned Veterans Affairs hospitals into abortion clinics:
“I am incredibly grateful to President Trump and Veterans Affairs Secretary Collins for rescinding one of the Biden administration’s most aggressive pro-abortion actions, promoting and performing elective abortions in Veterans Affairs facilities. The Biden administration was so committed to its radical abortion agenda that it blatantly violated federal and state laws to turn VA clinics into abortion providers. Not only should U.S. tax dollars never be used to support the abortion industry, but our veterans deserve better and honest health care. Thank you, Mr. President, for putting our veterans first again.”
The Federal Register is expected to publish a
proposed rule
returning policy to the pre-Biden norm that kept abortions services out of the VA. The publication will initiate a public comment period before the proposed rule would become final.
Hyde-Smith was among the Senators who sponsored a Congressional Review Act
resolution of disapproval
to try to overturn the Biden VA abortion rule, which clearly violated the Hyde Amendment that bans the use of taxpayer dollars for elective abortions. In January, President Trump signed an
executive order
to reestablish enforcement of the Hyde Amendment.
