Cantwell Statement on Valley Medical Center Layoffs

03.30.25 Cantwell Statement on Valley Medical Center Layoffs WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), senior member of the Senate Finance Committee and ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, gave the following statement regarding the 101 recent layoffs at Valley Medical Center in Renton: “ Hospitals in Washington state rely heavily on stable Medicaid funding. I urge the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to quickly approve Washington state's 2025 application for the Safety Net Assessment Program so our hospitals can continue to provide care for the most vulnerable.. The necessity of this program shows how hospitals are already struggling to keep pace with costs – and Congressional Republicans’ plan to slash up to $880 billion from Medicaid would be devastating for patients and hospitals. We should not be giving hospitals another reason to worry when they are busy providing lifesaving care.” Print Email Tweet Next Article Previous Article
