Blackburn Resolution Marking Day of Remembrance for Nuclear Workers Unanimously Passes Senate

– Today, U.S. Senator
Marsha Blackburn (
R-Tenn.) released the following statement after her resolution designating October 30, 2025, as a “National Day of Remembrance for the Workers of the Nuclear Weapons Program of the United States” passed the Senate unanimously:
“It is my honor to lead the resolution designating October 30 as a National Day of Remembrance for nuclear workers, just as the Senate has done every year since 2009,”

. “In Tennessee, we recognize and honor the many scientists, engineers, and other workers at Oak Ridge National Lab and the Y-12 National Security Complex. America is grateful for all of our nuclear workers and their service to our country.”

BACKGROUND
Since 2009 the Senate has recognized the contributions, services, and sacrifices that the workers of the nuclear weapons program made for the defense of the United States on October 30 of each year.
The Nuclear Weapons Workers Day of Remembrance Resolution:
Honors
the hundreds of thousands of patriotic men and women that have served the United States by building nuclear
weapons for the defense of the United States since World War II;
Recognizes
the contributions, services, and sacrifices that those patriotic men and women made for the defense of the United States;
Designates
October 30, 2025, as a national day of remembrance for the workers of the nuclear weapons program of the United States, including uranium miners, millers, and haulers,
plutonium processors, and onsite participants at atmospheric nuclear weapons tests; and
Encourages
the people of the United States to support and participate in appropriate ceremonies, programs, and other activities to commemorate October 30, 2025, as a national day of remembrance for past and present workers of the nuclear weapons program of the United States.
