U.S. Senator Katie Britt Celebrates Advancement of TREY’s Law

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today celebrated the advancement of the Terminating Restrictive Enforcement of Youth Settlements (TREY’s) Law , of which she is a lead sponsor. It was unanimously advanced out of the Judiciary Committee during an executive business meeting. TREY’s Law will now head to Senate floor for a full vote. Senator Britt with Trey Carlock’s sister, Elizabeth, and Alabama State Representative David Faulkner, who sponsored the state version of TREY’s Law along with Alabama State Senator Matt Woods, during a press conference announcing the introduction of the bill on March 4, 2026. TREY’s Law voids non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) that silence survivors of child sexual abuse and is named in memory of Trey Carlock, who was silenced by such an NDA after experiencing sexual abuse at a Kanakuk Ministries camp. This led to Trey being retraumatized by a civil ligation process related to the abuse, and ultimately his death by suicide at age 28. “I’m proud that TREY’s Law is headed to the Senate floor for a full vote,” said Senator Britt. “This is a bipartisan piece of legislation that has seen success in states across the nation, including Alabama, where State Representative David Faulkner and State Senator Matt Woods led this through the Alabama state legislature. I’m particularly thankful to Senator Ted Cruz for his leadership on this legislation at the federal level and look forward to continuing working with him to get this passed in the Senate, eventually the House of Representatives, and to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law.” TREY’s Law is supported by the American Association for Justice, Prevent Together – The National Coalition to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation, Protect Our Children, National Children’s Alliance, Tim Tebow Foundation, Unsilenced, Joyful Heart Foundation, Children’s Justice Campaign – Enough Abuse, Zero Abuse Project, Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas, and Rights4Girls.
